Kylian Mbappé wrote his name into Real Madrid’s history on Tuesday night, becoming only the fourth player to score 10 goals in a single Champions League campaign for the club.

The French forward struck twice in Madrid’s emphatic 6–1 win over his former side Monaco, reaching double figures in just his sixth appearance of the season. Mbappé opened the scoring inside five minutes with a composed finish from the edge of the box, before doubling his tally midway through the first half after being set up by Vinícius Júnior.

Mbappé’s milestone places him alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, Raúl, and Karim Benzema in an exclusive Real Madrid group. Ronaldo achieved the feat seven times during his spell in Spain, underlining how rare the benchmark is across modern Champions League campaigns.
For Mbappé, it is also a personal breakthrough. He had previously come close with Paris Saint-Germain, scoring eight goals in both the 2020/21 and 2023/24 seasons, but this is the first time he has reached 10 in Europe’s premier competition.
A historic start in Europe
Mbappé’s overall Champions League record now stands at 66 goals, placing him among the tournament’s leading scorers. He has also made a rapid impact in Europe for Madrid, scoring 18 European goals in 20 appearances, moving past club icons such as Gareth Bale, Luís Figo, and Fernando Morientes for continental goals.
Only Alfredo Di Stéfano has scored more in his first 20 games for Real Madrid in Europe, while across the Champions League era, only Ruud van Nistelrooy is noted as having a better return in a player’s first 20 Champions League appearances for a single club.
Madrid back on track
The win offered a strong response from Real Madrid after recent setbacks in the competition, including a December defeat to Manchester City. Goals from Vinícius Júnior, Jude Bellingham and others ensured Los Blancos swept aside Monaco and climbed to second in the league-phase table.
Under new coach Álvaro Arbeloa, the 15-time European champions appear to be building momentum again as they push for a top-eight finish.
