Real Madrid has officially punched their ticket to the Champions League quarterfinals, doing so in absolute “Kings of Europe” fashion. After a dominant display at the Bernabéu, the Whites traveled to the Etihad and finished the job against Manchester City, securing a victory in both legs to set up a mouth-watering clash against either Bayern Munich or Atalanta.
The hero of the night? None other than Vini Jr. The Brazilian superstar claimed the MVP trophy after a clinical brace that dismantled City’s defense.
A Night of Drama and Dominance
The match turned on its head in the 22nd minute. After Vini Jr. saw an initial effort hit the post and a follow-up blocked by Bernardo Silva’s arm on the goal line, the referee—aided by VAR—awarded a penalty and sent the Portuguese midfielder off. Vini stepped up, coolly sending Donnarumma the wrong way to open the scoring.
Despite being a man down, City fought back through Haaland just before the break. The second half saw Lunin step in for Courtois, making a massive save against Haaland to keep the aggregate lead safe.
Vini Jr. Seals the Deal
While Real Madrid managed the tempo expertly throughout the second half, the final flourish came in stoppage time. Tchouameni, who was immense in midfield, provided a magnificent assist for Vini Jr. to slot home his second of the night.
With Mbappe and Arda Güler providing sparks off the bench and the defense holding firm, the Madridismo can now look forward to the next round.
