Real Madrid are on the verge of adding another exciting young talent to their academy setup, with 19-year-old Ghanaian midfielder Latif Ismann understood to be very close to making the move to the Spanish capital. According to a report from ESPN, Los Blancos are all but done on a deal to bring Ismann in from UD Logroñés, with the signing geared toward the 2027/28 campaign.
What We Know About Ismann
Ismann is a box-to-box midfielder — a classic number eight — who has been turning heads in Spain for some time now. Those who have tracked his development point to his engine, his ability to cover ground effectively, and a technical quality that stands out for a player his age. He’s been plying his trade with Logroñés, but if these reports prove correct, the next chapter of his development will be written at one of European football’s most storied clubs.
This isn’t a sudden development, either. Real Madrid had already registered a firm interest in Ismann during the summer transfer window but were unable to get a deal over the line at that point. Now, it appears the persistence has paid off, and the Merengues are finally set to land their man.
Why This Matters for Real Madrid
Real Madrid’s academy — La Fábrica — has a proud tradition of producing and developing top-level talent, and the club’s scouting network continues to cast a wide net across Europe and beyond. Bringing in a highly-regarded young midfielder with the physical and technical attributes Ismann is reported to possess fits squarely within that philosophy of investing early in players with significant upside.
From a squad-building perspective, Real Madrid have always taken a long-term view when it comes to their youth setup. Players who come in at academy level rarely make an immediate first-team impact — that’s not the expectation — but the pipeline from La Fábrica to the senior squad is well-established. The likes of players developed through Real Madrid’s youth ranks over the years serve as a constant reminder of what the system can produce when the right raw material is identified and nurtured properly.
For a club that has consistently invested in midfield depth and quality at every level, a box-to-box profile like Ismann’s is an interesting one to add to the mix. That ability to contribute both defensively and offensively, to link play and carry the ball — those are traits that align well with the demands placed on midfielders at the highest level of the game.
What’s Next
With the deal described as “very close,” it seems only a matter of time before an official announcement follows. The signing is being made with the 2027/28 season in mind, so supporters shouldn’t expect to see Ismann anywhere near the first-team picture in the short term. This is a move about the future — about securing a promising young talent before a rival club steps in and snaps him up.
Real Madrid fans will be keen to keep an eye on Ismann’s progress once he links up with the academy. Madridistas have seen time and again how the club’s infrastructure can help a talented youngster reach their ceiling, and if Ismann lives up to the billing that has followed him around Spain, there could be a very exciting player emerging from La Fábrica in the years ahead.
