The internal collapse at Real Madrid has reached a new boiling point just days before El Clásico. Reports from Marca and Tribal Football confirm that midfield duo Federico Valverde and Aurélien Tchouaméni nearly came to physical blows during a training session on Wednesday, May 6.
What began as a standard foul during a practice match reportedly ignited “one of the most heated exchanges ever seen at Valdebebas.”
1. Details of the Altercation
According to eyewitness accounts from the training ground:
- The Spark: A heavy challenge between the two players led to immediate verbal aggression.
- The Confrontation: The pair confronted each other, with significant pushing and shoving that required teammates to intervene.
- The Escalation: The argument did not end on the pitch; reports state the shouting match continued with “high intensity” as the players moved into the locker room.
2. A “Toxic” Dressing Room Culture?
This incident is not an isolated flare-up but rather the latest in a string of disciplinary breakdowns that have plagued the Alvaro Arbeloa era:
- The Rüdiger-Carreras Slap: Earlier this week, Álvaro Carreras effectively confirmed reports that veteran Antonio Rüdiger had slapped him during a training ground argument in April. While Carreras insisted the matter is “sorted,” the physical nature of the dispute shocked the fanbase.
- The Mbappé Insult: Reports from The Athletic also allege that Kylian Mbappé recently insulted a member of the coaching staff during a tactical drill.
- Captain’s Temper: Earlier in the season, club captain Dani Carvajal was reportedly involved in an overly aggressive tackle that injured a youth team player, further highlighting the frayed nerves at the club.
3. The Managerial Vacuum
With Real Madrid facing a second consecutive season without a major trophy and trailing Barcelona by 11 points, the lack of authority from the bench is glaring. Arbeloa’s inability to maintain order has accelerated rumors that Florentino Pérez is ready to pull the trigger on a return for José Mourinho, who is seen as the only figure capable of restoring a “law and order” culture to the squad.
RMxtra Verdict: A House on Fire
Valverde and Tchouaméni have long been considered the future of the Madrid midfield—the “heirs” to Kroos and Modrić. To see them nearly trade punches is the clearest sign yet that the psychological weight of this disastrous season has broken the squad’s unity.
If this group cannot find a way to coexist for 90 minutes on Sunday, they won’t just lose the title to Barcelona; they risk a historic humiliation at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.
