Despite boasting numbers that would be the envy of any player in history, Kylian Mbappé finds himself the target of an unprecedented online movement.
A viral petition hosted on the platform Replit has now surpassed a staggering 34 million signatures, with fans demanding the Frenchman’s immediate departure. While the legitimacy of the count is under fire due to a lack of bot verification, the noise it has created is impossible for the club to ignore.
1. The “Association” Problem: A Two-Year Drought
The primary driver behind the backlash isn’t Mbappé’s talent, but the timing of his arrival.
- The Contrast: Real Madrid won the Champions League in 2024, just before Mbappé joined. Since then, the club has failed to lift a major trophy.
- The Scapegoat Effect: Fans have begun to associate Mbappé’s presence with a “downturn” in the team’s legendary winning DNA. Despite being the league’s top scorer, his tenure is being viewed through the lens of domestic inferiority to Hansi Flick’s Barcelona.
2. Tactical Redundancy: The Vini Jr. Conflict
On the pitch, the “dream pairing” has often looked like a tactical nightmare.
- Spacing Issues: Both Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior naturally gravitate toward the left wing. This has left the team’s attack looking unbalanced, with players frequently occupying the same spaces and neutralizing each other’s effectiveness.
- Team vs. Individual: While Mbappé is chasing Cristiano Ronaldo’s single-season scoring records, critics argue the team’s overall play has become more static and predictable since his inclusion as a central striker.
3. The “Dedication” Debate
The final straw for many was the infamous “Sardinia-gate.”
- The Vacation: Images of Mbappé in Italy with actress Ester Expósito while the team was struggling with an injury crisis sparked fury.
- The Perception: For a fanbase that demands 100% “Madridismo,” a holiday during a rehabilitation period was seen as a lack of respect for the shirt, especially with El Clásico on the horizon.
The Stats vs. The Petition
To understand how polarizing this situation is, one only needs to look at the numbers:
| The Case for Mbappé (Stats) | The Case Against Mbappé (Sentiment) |
| 41 Goals this season (Leader in La Liga). | 34 Million+ signatures on the “FUERA” petition. |
| 42% Goal Involvement for the entire team. | Zero major trophies in two seasons. |
| Chasing UCL single-season records. | Perceived lack of “winning” team chemistry. |
RMxtra Verdict: The Ultimate Litmus Test
The “Mbappé Out” petition is a symptom of a wider institutional meltdown at Valdebebas, involving training ground fights and a 14-point deficit in the league. However, at Real Madrid, there is only one cure for a toxic atmosphere: The Clásico.
If Mbappé plays on Sunday and delivers a performance that stops Barcelona from winning the title, the 34 million signatures will likely be forgotten by Monday. If he fails, this “digital protest” may become a very real problem for Florentino Pérez this summer.
