It’s the news every Madridista has been waiting to hear — Jude Bellingham is closing in on a new contract at Real Madrid, and it looks like Manchester City’s pursuit of the 23-year-old is about to hit a very firm wall.
What’s Happening
According to a report from Fichajes, cited by The Hard Tackle, Bellingham is in active negotiations with Real Madrid over a contract extension and could put pen to paper within the coming weeks. His current deal runs until 2029, which is hardly an emergency situation, but the club has made it crystal clear they have absolutely zero intention of selling their prized midfielder — and they want the paperwork to reflect that as soon as possible.
The length of the new contract hasn’t been finalised yet, but the report indicates it could tie Bellingham to the Bernabéu until either 2030 or 2031. Either way, we’re talking about a player who would be committing the best years of his career to Real Madrid — and from everything we’re seeing, he’s more than happy to do exactly that.
The renewal talks come after a summer in which Bellingham’s name had been floating around the Premier League rumour mill. Manchester City were among the clubs linked, and Chelsea and Liverpool had reportedly been keeping a close eye on the situation too. Once this new deal is signed, that conversation effectively ends — at least for the foreseeable future.
Bellingham’s Form This Season
It’s not hard to see why Real Madrid are so eager to lock him down. Under José Mourinho this season, Bellingham has been practically undroppable. He has started every official match except for the game against Elche, racking up three goals and three assists across eight appearances — a fine return for a midfielder who also contributes so much off the ball.
Zoom out and the numbers are even more impressive. Bellingham has now made 148 appearances for Real Madrid since his move from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2023, contributing to a remarkable 85 goals in total and helping the club lift five trophies along the way. For a player who only turned 23, that is an extraordinary record — and it’s exactly the kind of output that makes Real Madrid determined to ensure nobody can come knocking.
It’s worth remembering just how quickly Bellingham established himself at the Bernabéu. His debut season was nothing short of sensational, with the England international becoming arguably the most influential player in La Liga almost overnight. He arrived with enormous expectations and somehow exceeded them — which tells you everything about the quality of the man.
What This Means for Real Madrid Fans
For supporters, this is about more than just a contract. It’s a statement of intent from a player who could genuinely play anywhere in the world and who has attracted attention from some of the biggest clubs on the planet. The fact that Bellingham is choosing to stay — and that Real Madrid are moving quickly to make it official — speaks volumes about the relationship between player and club.
Real Madrid have had their share of challenges in recent seasons, and as noted in the source report, results haven’t always matched the level of talent available. But Bellingham has been a constant — a player who drives standards, leads by example, and consistently shows up in big moments. Securing his future removes one of the biggest potential anxieties hanging over the squad and gives the club a solid platform to build around for years to come.
For Manchester City, this is a significant blow. While Enzo Maresca’s side do have Phil Foden and Rayan Cherki operating in advanced midfield roles, Bellingham’s combination of technical quality, physicality, goalscoring ability, and tactical flexibility makes him a generational talent — the kind of player who would improve virtually any team on earth. City’s chances of landing him look remote now, and once the ink dries on this extension, it will become even harder to envision him leaving the Spanish capital any time soon.
All roads point to Bellingham remaining a Madridista for the long haul. And honestly? That’s exactly how it should be.
