Madridistas, while the first team’s European journey ended in heartbreak this week, the future of our club is proving that the winning DNA is alive and well in Valdebebas.

Álvaro López’s Juvenil A squad has officially booked their ticket to the UEFA Youth League final! In a match that perfectly encapsulated Real Madrid’s undeniable spirit, our academy boys fought back from a goal down against a dangerous Paris Saint-Germain side, ultimately securing a nerve-wracking 5-4 victory in a marathon penalty shootout.

A Test of Character Against PSG

The semi-final clash was an absolute battle from the opening whistle. Real Madrid started with high intensity, nearly finding the back of the net early on through a fierce Jacobo strike. However, it was the French side who drew first blood.

In the 30th minute, PSG capitalized on their first real dangerous attacking sequence, with Ly finishing past our defense to make it 0-1.

It was here that the true character of the team was tested. As PSG ramped up the pressure looking for a knockout blow before halftime, our goalkeeper stepped up to deliver a defining performance.

The Javi Navarro Masterclass

If you didn’t know the name Javi Navarro before today, engrave it in your memory now.

Before he became the shootout hero, Navarro kept our Youth League dreams alive during regular time. Just moments after PSG’s opener, he pulled off a spectacular kick-save to deny a certain second goal. He followed that up with consecutive, point-blank heroics against El Nay and Ayari to ensure we went into the break only down by one.

Never Count Out Real Madrid

Coming out of the dressing room, the boys in white laid siege to the PSG penalty area. The pressure was relentless. After surviving a brief scare where VAR correctly overturned a PSG penalty, Álvaro López’s tactical tweaks finally paid off.

In the 83rd minute, the persistence was rewarded:

  • The Build-up: Jacobo fired a heavy shot that caused chaos in the box.
  • The Assist: Yáñez brilliantly recovered the loose ball and squared it into the danger zone.
  • The Finish: Substitute Liberto, who had been electric since coming on, buried a low left-footed shot to level the score at 1-1.

Penalty Shootout Drama

With the score deadlocked after 90 minutes, a spot in the final came down to penalties.

Despite early misses from Alexis Ciria and Carlos Díez that put us on the back foot, Navarro absolutely refused to let his team lose. The young shot-stopper put on a clinic, making three separate penalty saves against Assab, Khafi, and Mbemba.

With the shootout tied at 4-4 in sudden death, highly rated center-back Joan Martínez calmly stepped up and buried his penalty. When Navarro parried away Mbemba’s subsequent kick, the celebrations erupted.

Eyes on the Prize: Club Brugge Awaits

This squad has shown incredible resilience, tactical maturity, and raw talent to reach the final hurdle. The ultimate prize is now just 90 minutes away.
