‘Our Obligation’ — Xabi Alonso Addresses Real Madrid’s January Transfer Plans

Xabi Alonso has left the door open for Real Madrid to make moves in the January transfer window, insisting the club must stay alert to any opportunity that can strengthen the squad.

Madrid were active in the summer, but results have been mixed so far. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Franco Mastantuono have both seen momentum slowed by injury setbacks, while Álvaro Carreras and Dean Huijsen have grown into important starters — even though Huijsen, too, has struggled to stay fully fit.

With Los Blancos chasing reigning La Liga champions Barcelona and their Champions League campaign showing clear room for improvement after losing two of six matches, Alonso admits there’s always a need to evaluate ways to improve.

“It’s our obligation to always be attentive as to how we can improve, if possibilities arise. But we’re happy with the squad,” Alonso told reporters.

Madrid won’t force a deal — but won’t ignore the market

Alonso’s message was balanced: he’s satisfied with what he has, but Real Madrid won’t switch off simply because the squad is settled on paper. Injuries and inconsistency can change priorities quickly, and January offers the chance to react if the right profile becomes available.

For now, the stance appears clear — no panic, no promises, but full awareness.
