How it happened
Dumfries was actually first through the process, registered on July 18 following his arrival from Inter Milan on a deal running to June 2030, secured for €20 million — the value of his release clause. Konaté and Cucurella followed on Monday, becoming Real Madrid’s second and third summer signings to be formally registered. Cucurella’s move from Chelsea cost €55 million fixed plus €5 million in add-ons, while Konaté arrived on a free transfer after his Liverpool contract ran down. That leaves Bernardo Silva as the only member of the club’s confirmed quartet still awaiting registration, alongside incoming winger Yan Diomandé, whose move from RB Leipzig is reported to be all but done for a fee above €120 million through June 2031.
Why the timing matters
There’s more at stake here than paperwork. La Liga clubs are limited to 25 registered first-team players, and reports suggest Real Madrid currently only have room to register one of Diomandé or Rodri Hernández — the Manchester City midfielder they’re also pursuing — unless the squad is trimmed first. Names like Ferland Mendy, Eduardo Camavinga, and Raúl Asencio have been floated as candidates to make space, though Camavinga has publicly said he intends to fight for his place rather than leave. PSG, for their part, are said to be unhappy at losing the race for Diomandé and reportedly intend to complicate Real Madrid’s pursuit of Rodri as a result.
