Real Madrid have confirmed a fresh injury concern involving Kylian Mbappé, dealing Xabi Alonso’s squad an unwelcome blow just as the team returns from the festive break.

Los Blancos regrouped in the Spanish capital this week, but Mbappé’s comeback has been interrupted after medical checks revealed an issue picked up during the holidays.
In an official update released on Wednesday, Real Madrid confirmed that tests carried out by the club’s medical staff diagnosed the French forward with a sprain in his left knee.
“Following tests carried out today by the Real Madrid Medical Services on our player Kylian Mbappé, he has been diagnosed with a sprain in his left knee. His progress will be monitored.”
Mbappé spent much of his break in Africa, attending AFCON group-stage matches, and it appears the problem only became fully clear once he returned for assessment.
The club have not yet provided a specific timeframe for his return, but the injury casts serious doubt over his availability for Real Madrid’s next fixture against Real Betis this weekend. Further updates are expected as his recovery is monitored in the coming days.
