Mbappé Hits Four Past Olympiacos as Real Madrid Edge Seven-Goal Thriller

Mbappé hits four as Real Madrid record a landmark UEFA Champions League victory in Greece, edging Olympiacos 4-3 in a dramatic seven-goal thriller. The French forward’s stunning haul not only ended the Greek side’s nine-match unbeaten home run in European competition, but also delivered Los Blancos their first win in ten attempts on Greek soil, underlining the wider significance of the night for Carlo Ancelotti’s team.

Madrid settled quickly and immediately imposed their tempo on the contest. Vinícius Júnior produced the first moment of real danger, gliding past defenders before forcing Konstantinos Tzolakis into a strong save, the Olympiacos goalkeeper tipping his powerful effort over the crossbar. Despite Real’s encouraging start, it was the hosts who struck first.

Olympiacos Take the Lead Before Mbappé Turns the Tie

Against the run of early play, Olympiacos opened the scoring with a well-constructed attacking move. Daniel Podence, Ayoub El Kaabi and Chiquinho combined neatly around the edge of the area, with the latter finishing low beyond Andriy Lunin to give the home side the advantage and ignite the Karaiskakis Stadium.

Chiquinho almost doubled his tally soon afterwards, only for Lunin to respond with a superb full-stretch save that kept Real Madrid within touching distance. That intervention would prove pivotal, as it provided the platform for Mbappé to seize control of the match in devastating fashion.

The French forward initially found space inside the penalty area and drilled a composed finish past Tzolakis to restore parity. Within minutes, Mbappé struck again, rising to meet an inviting cross from Arda Güler and directing a powerful header beyond the Olympiacos goalkeeper to swing the momentum firmly in Madrid’s favour.

Mbappé then completed a remarkable seven-minute hat-trick – the second-fastest in UEFA Champions League history – by timing his run perfectly to exploit Olympiacos’ high defensive line, latching onto a through ball and finishing calmly to make it 3-1 before the half-hour mark.

Vinícius Denied, Tchouameni Strikes the Bar as Madrid Press

Real Madrid continued to threaten and thought they had further extended their lead when Vinícius produced a precise curling finish past Tzolakis. However, the effort was ruled out, with Mbappé adjudged to have strayed narrowly offside in the build-up.

Aurelien Tchouameni then went close to adding his name to the scoresheet, unleashing a powerful long-range effort that crashed off the crossbar with Tzolakis beaten. Olympiacos, meanwhile, remained dangerous on the counter, and Lunin was required once more to deny El Kaabi before the interval, preserving Madrid’s two-goal cushion at half-time.

Olympiacos Rally, But Mbappé Hits Four & Controls

The second half initially followed a similar pattern, with Real Madrid dictating possession and territory. Nevertheless, Olympiacos refused to capitulate. Just six minutes after the restart, substitute Santiago Hezze delivered an accurate cross into the penalty area, where an unmarked Mehdi Taremi headed past Lunin to reduce the deficit to 3-2 and re-energise the home supporters.

Any serious prospect of a full comeback was quickly curtailed by Mbappé once again. Vinícius produced another piece of individual quality, weaving through a crowded penalty area before unselfishly squaring the ball for Mbappé, who calmly rolled in his fourth goal of the evening to restore Madrid’s two-goal advantage at 4-2.

From that point, Real Madrid largely controlled the rhythm of the game, using their experience to limit Olympiacos’ attacking opportunities. Even so, the hosts continued to pose a sporadic aerial threat and eventually found a third goal when El Kaabi rose highest to head past Lunin, making it 4-3 and setting up a tense conclusion.

Historic Away Win and a Statement Performance from Mbappé

Despite late pressure from Olympiacos, Real Madrid managed the final stages with composure to secure an important away victory. The result delivered their first-ever away win against Olympiacos and ended a frustrating sequence of three matches without a win in all competitions, providing a timely boost as the season intensifies.

For Mbappé, this was a statement performance in the Champions League. Four goals in a demanding away fixture highlighted his status as a decisive figure for Real Madrid, while his combination play with Vinícius and Güler offered further encouragement for Ancelotti and the coaching staff.

More broadly, the victory strengthens Real Madrid’s position in their Champions League group and serves as a reminder of their attacking potential. Even when exposed defensively at times, their capacity to punish opponents in key moments remains one of the defining characteristics of this squad.
