The Spanish Football Federation has officially appointed Munuera Montero as the referee for Sunday’s highly anticipated El Clásico between Real Madrid and Barcelona in the 2026 Spanish Supercup Final.
Munuera Montero has a long officiating history with both sides. Real Madrid have recorded a 16-2-2 record in matches refereed by him, while Barcelona’s record stands at 18 wins, 4 draws, and 6 losses. These statistics highlight his frequent involvement in major domestic fixtures involving Spain’s biggest clubs.
Madrid fans will particularly remember a controversial incident earlier in the season when Jude Bellingham was shown a red card during a goalless draw against Osasuna after directing a remark toward the referee. The decision sparked significant debate and placed Munuera Montero under intense scrutiny.
With the fierce rivalry, high stakes, and physical intensity that define El Clásico, Munuera Montero will be under immense pressure to manage the game effectively. Both Real Madrid and Barcelona will be aiming to assert dominance in the Supercup final, and the referee’s decisions could prove crucial in determining the outcome of the match.
