Real Madrid’s recruitment team never stops working, and the latest name firmly on their radar is Chelsea’s Brazilian starlet Estevao Willian. According to a report by TEAMtalk, both Real Madrid and Barcelona are continuing to monitor the 19-year-old attacker — but Chelsea are making it abundantly clear that he is not for sale at any price.
What We Know
The interest from both Spanish giants is nothing new. Real Madrid and Barcelona were already tracking Estevao during his time at Palmeiras, where he announced himself as one of the most electrifying young talents to emerge from Brazil in years. Chelsea ultimately won that particular battle, forking out £29 million to secure his signature and bring him to Stamford Bridge ahead of what turned out to be a highly anticipated Premier League debut.
Fast forward to now, and Estevao has made 42 appearances for the Blues, chipping in with eight goals and four assists. Those are solid — if not yet spectacular — numbers for a teenager still adapting to the intensity of English football. He is under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2033, which hands Chelsea an enormous amount of leverage in any future negotiation. The club has absolutely no intention of entertaining offers, viewing him as a cornerstone of their long-term project.
The player himself appears to be focused on the job at hand. Despite some natural frustrations that come with any young player finding their feet at a new club in a new league, Estevao is said to be settled in London and committed to developing under head coach Xabi Alonso — yes, that Xabi Alonso, the man who masterminded some of the most elegant football Real Madrid fans have ever witnessed. It is one of football’s great ironies that a former Madridista legend is now the man responsible for shaping one of Los Blancos’ prime transfer targets.
Where Real Madrid Stand — and Why It’s Not Urgent
From Real Madrid’s perspective, this looks like strategic positioning rather than a pressing transfer priority. The report notes that Los Blancos have recently added Yan Diomande as a right-flank option, and they already have Arda Güler and Rodrygo in their ranks — two players with enormous potential who are competing for minutes in similar areas of the pitch. There is no burning need to go and break the bank for another right-sided attacker right now, which explains why this interest remains simmering rather than boiling over.
Barcelona’s situation is comparable. They have Lamine Yamal — arguably the hottest young talent in world football right now — as their first-choice option on the right, with Raphinha and Karim Adeyemi also capable of operating in that zone. Neither club is scrambling; both are simply keeping a close eye on a player they believe could one day be world-class.
That calculated patience is actually very typical of how Real Madrid operate in the transfer market under Florentino Pérez’s stewardship. They identified Kylian Mbappé years before eventually landing him, maintaining interest across multiple windows until the moment was right. Whether Estevao follows a similar trajectory towards the Bernabéu remains to be seen, but the blueprint exists.
What This Means for Madridistas
For Real Madrid fans, the honest message here is: don’t hold your breath for a swift resolution. Chelsea have a nine-year contract to hide behind, a manager actively invested in Estevao’s growth, and a board that sees him as central to their future. Barring a dramatic change of circumstances — or a player who eventually decides he wants a new challenge — this is likely a long-game pursuit at best.
That said, Real Madrid being in the conversation at all is never meaningless. The club’s pull, their Champions League pedigree, and the Bernabéu’s gravitational force have unlocked supposedly impossible transfers before. If Estevao continues to develop at the rate many expect and begins pushing for a move himself down the line, Los Blancos will be ready and waiting. For now, though, this one stays firmly in the “watch this space” column — and Chelsea are doing everything in their power to keep it that way.
